Hot Buttered Rum


Ingredients

  • 2 Bar spoons Demerara Sugar
  • 2 oz. / 60 ml. Brown Butter Rum
  • 4 oz. / 120 ml. Hot Water
  • Garnish with Star Anise + Cinnamon Stick

Instructions

You MUST have fat-washed rum

  • Scoop 2 bar spoons of sugar into a glass or clear mug
  • Add brown buttered rum
  • Add hot water
  • Add Garnishes

How To Make Fat-Washed Butter Rum

  • Melt butter on stovetop until liquid and slightly brown
  • Pour into rum
  • Let stand for at least an hour — the butter will congeal on top of the rum
  • Optional, but better: Put in freezer for about a day
  • Rum is now fat-washed
  • Strain the rum or, if frozen, poke a hole in the butter layer and strain
